A GLIMPSE INTO THE TRAINING OF A HIGH-LEVEL KARATE ATHLETE

Training a high-level athlete is never about checking boxes—it’s about solving problems. In this case, the goal wasn’t just to support the demands of karate, but to identify what would actually help Jesus perform better, recover faster, and stay durable over time. This article gives you a quick look behind the curtain.

What you see in the video is just a portion of the work we’ve put in. The goal is never to do more for the sake of it—it’s to do the right things at the right time, based on what the athlete actually needs. That mindset has guided every decision we’ve made so far.

BREAKING DOWN THE METHODS

Much of our approach blends principles from strength and conditioning, mobility work, and power development—filtered through the lens of what actually transfers to the mat.

For Jesus, that’s meant a focus on:

  • Controlled strength work to improve joint stability and reduce wear from high-impact movements.
  • Rotational power drills to sharpen striking mechanics and enhance explosiveness.
  • Targeted mobility and isometric work to increase usable range without sacrificing control.

Everything is adjusted based on how he’s moving and recovering week to week. Nothing is static—and that’s the point.
